I have heard some talk recently about Ouija boards and their use in general as well as during paranormal investigations. First I should discuss the history of the Ouija board a bit…it’s original beginning, not that of Parker Brothers, the version most known today.
In 1853 a French Spiritualist named M. Planchette invented a tool so that people could try to communicate with those who had crossed over to the other side. The planchette was heart-shaped, and had little legs attached to the bottom. Spiritualist mediums were the first to use these planchettes at the time, claiming that spirits would force the object to move through the medium’s hands while using it.
“Shortly after the planchette came to America, a cabinet and coffin maker from Maryland named E.C. Reiche created a new method of communicating with the dead. He devised a wooden lap tray with the letters of the alphabet arranged in two lines across the center of the board. Below these letters, he placed the numbers 1-10 and the words YES and NO in each lower corner of the board. He used the planchette with his board but removed the pencil tips and placed wooden pegs on the bottom of it. In this way, the planchette was free to move about the board.
When you hear the word “psychic,” do you think of someone who sells tarot card readings out of the back of her home? Do you think of those commercials late at night for psychic hotlines claiming to tell you what will happen to your love life in the future while you much Cheetoes for $3.99 a minute? Different people will have different ideas and stereotypes regarding psychic abilities, but the term psychic serves as an umbrella term for many different types of abilities and phenomena.
In the paranormal community, I have been reading up on articles such as documentation of research, investigation protocols and equipment modifications for EVP work. Lately I have been researching the use of certain equipment and/or equipment modifications for doing ‘real time’ EVP work. In other words, instead of hearing what we have captured on audio only after we have done the recordings, these experiments with equipment are being toted as allowing us to actually hear the EVPS as we are recording them.
A psychic is an umbrella term used to describe a person with paranormal abilities. Psychic powers have been around since ancient times and have been known to appear in both Egyptian and Viking societies. Psychics can be clairvoyants, palm readers or mediums. Psychics can provide advice on all aspects of a persons life and let them know information about their lifes purpose. The guidance that a psychic provides to the client has the ability to change and improve their life if the person chooses to follow their advice.
Featured on television by ‘Most Haunted’ the Station Hotel Dudley in the UK, holds many
dark secrets, particularly in the cellars. The story tells of a hotel manager who enticed a
servant girl into the cellar. Spurning his advances and threatening to tell his wife, the girl was
murdered by him.
Most of us have heard about astrology and astrological readings. Some have experienced having one or more done. But “What’s it all about, Alfie?”
We can talk to people who don’t mow the lawn without consulting their astrologer first and to those at the other end of the spectrum who firmly declare that they do not believe in astrology. What lies in between?
Most people have heard of the witch’s “familiar.” It’s commonly thought to be an animal, such as a cat or raven. Actually, the familiar was a spirit servant, which may or may not have lived in the body of an animal belonging to the witch. You can create your own spirit servant by creating a psi-ball with the psychic energy–sometimes called chi, prana, or mana–which we all have. You can use this psi-ball for healing, telepathy, clairvoyance, or psychic attacks.
You may in the past have come across odd stories, many considered nothing more than ancient legend, about explorers finding huge underground areas the size of small cities. These underground locations would often have strange artifacts, perhaps even ones which would be considered anomalous by the currently held beliefs of scientists. Such stories may include even more novelty - reports of reptilian humanoid creatures which live underground, or vast amounts of valuable treasures. If you dig deep enough, you will learn that these reptilian beings - of which there may be several sorts - only inhabit caves where people are not commonly exploring. Clearly if the underground reptilians exist, they do not wish to have much interaction with us surface dwellers.
It came as no surprise to me that the ‘plumbers by day’ have yet again caused my email inbox to overflow. Not that I have any interest in or connection to their ghost research activities or show on the Sci-Fi Channel. However, I noticed that several of my articles denouncing the kind of hit and run ghost research tactics they use have had over thirty thousand reads. That confirms my view that I am not the only person that sees them as the worst example possible of paranormal investigators.
