All about education issue

The toughest part of teaching for many teachers is discipline. Being able to keep a classroom of elementary students under control and preserve their dignity and respect is no easy task. In many classes, discipline is not even addressed and it hinders the learning of the class.

The core of discipline is to be fair and consistent. Although this sounds easy, it takes a strong teacher with a great deal of patience. It is something that is done early and with time it gets easier, especially when students understand what is expected of them.

Since my mindset is on alternatives-to-education I’ll take “Learning & Freedom” as my topic for this forum and avoid the oxymoron of the other. This gives me two learning/freedom threads, to develop one is the freedom-to-learn ; the other is learning-to-be free.

FREEDOM TO LEARN

If you think that face-to-face training is the best way to do training, think again. New research shows that a blended approach produces 35-69 percent better outcomes than face-to-face alone.

What’s a blended approach? It’s a mixture of delivery modes, put together in a pattern to create the best result. For example, a blended course might involve one full day face-to-face, followed by several one-hour webinars delivered sequentially across a number of weeks. Another example might include a self-paced DVD program, followed by three two-hour webinars, followed by a live one-to-one coaching session.

The first type is the one that is commonly known as Standard Mandarin or Chinese which is the official spoken language of the People’s Republic of China and Republic of China (Taiwan). The other type is Mandarin as a dialect which is spoken across northern and south west China.

Any reference to Mandarin usually means Standard Mandarin. Standard Mandarin also varies from Mainland China to the version spoken in Taiwan. They also take on different names to distinguish the different versions. While Standard Mandarin acquires the name “Putonghua” in Mainland China its Taiwanese version is known as “Guoyu”. The only common factor among both the versions is that the phonology is based on the Beijing dialect.

The ability to remember is important to a student’s success in school. Having a strong memory will pave the way for knowledge, confidence and understanding in the classroom. A student that can’t remember the names countries, provinces or cities on a map will struggle with geography. Not knowing the times tables will hold a student back in math. A student that can’t remember the spelling or definition of words will have trouble comprehending text or writing creative stories in language. Although there are other important skills that follow, there is no doubt that a strong memory is crucial.

Adult-friendly online college degree programs make obtaining a degree possible for you, even if you have obligations to family and work. Because of the flexibility of an online degree program, you can fit schoolwork into your schedule. All you need is a computer, the Internet and the desire to succeed.

Many major universities offer online degrees that have been proven over time to be “do-able”. Because coursework can be done at any time, many adults have been able to earn or advance a degree, or obtain a vocational certificate, while still maintaining a full time job. Associate, bachelor, masters and PhD degree programs in all fields are offered via the Internet from accredited colleges and universities all over the country.

The corner of the classroom used to be an unwanted and an unpopular place to be assigned. Most of us don’t want to be separated from the group or feel like we are alienated.

Why not make a section of the classroom a place where imagination would be explored during a timeout, recess, or as a reward?

Teens can explore their own identity and creativeness with an improv lesson or speech aided with props. Kids love to make up stories. Have them develop and enrich your curriculum with imagination.

  • Create a corner of your room or office with a theme or with fun props

Many people are kind of weak in the area of algebra mathematics. A lot of them read books, attend lessons and research the web to find information, interactive lessons and websites that could help them improve their algebra skills. Interactive learning (e.g. online courses) is far more fun and entertaining than reading algebra books. But can interactive learning alone help you become an algebra star?

In order to master mathematics you have to master the algebra concepts. Learn the basics of algebra efficiently, move on to more complicated issues, learn them. Then move forward to even more complex issues. And so on.

My kids have told me over and over that they wanted to send my name and picture to those make-over television shows. I finally understood what they were talking about. Kids want their surroundings to be upbeat, creative, visually appealing, modern, what they like, and fun!

When they spend most of their awake time in the classroom, and you as well, it is no wonder they respond to the environment in which they are in. How would you like your bedroom if you have to spend 7 hours (awake) each day?

Make opportunities to learn science available

Many parents want to encourage their kids to have fun learning but simply do not know how. There is actually an easy solution; encourage kids to think scientifically by providing them with opportunities to practice. As a parent you must teach this principle by example. When you go outside for a walk or a bike ride, point out some of the things that you see. Ask your kids if they know why the weeds can push through the sidewalk, or how a scraped knee will heal itself. Ask questions and if you don’t know the answers see if you can think of an experiment that will help you to figure out what is going on. There is science in everything around us, we just have to be opened to seeing it.
