Starting classes in the fall is a stressful time whether you are a freshman or a 5th year senior. Many times students are on their own for the first time and in a situation where with today’s society you have no choice but to succeed.
For many parents and students, the first experience at college is the college bookstore. Ah yes, it has the environment of the college atmosphere. Some even have the little coffee houses built right into them. They have all of the cool shirts and pennants and bumper stickers. Now, that is stuff that may be hard to find in other places.
But the main purpose for the establishment is the books. So you go in search of the books you will need for your classes. Only to find out…….Yikes! these books are really expensive. If you have never priced college text books, make sure you are ready to sit down when you find out what many of these classes will cost.
Here is what I wish I knew. It is an online world now. With all of the competition, the internet is definitely in the mix. Do not buy anything at a college bookstore (except for the cool bumper sticker) until you have checked out the prices online. Many times, you will find the exact same text book for close to half of what you would pay at the book store. Also many times, the book stores do not have the books in stock so you have to wait.
Another thing to steer clear of is used books. I know from experience some of the used books are different series than the ones needed or sometimes are missing pages or parts of them are in bad condition. If you can buy a brand new book for the same price, why wouldn’t you?
If you find the right website, they also have movies and music for the students just in case they get bored during the school year! Take my advice and do your research!
If you are looking for text books, I did some of the research for you. Feel free to check out my blog
